Our approach to AI can be summed up in four simple principles:

✓ Our guiding voice will always be 100% pure human.

✓ Our nature sounds will always strive to be authentic real-world recordings.

✓ We may use AI tools selectively where they enable things that weren't previously possible.

✓ Every decision is guided by one unwavering question:
Does this create a better listening experience?

Why we believe this

The Honest Guys will NEVER use AI-generated voices. Ever. We believe the voice guiding you through a meditation should come from a real human being. This is a line we will not cross.

The same philosophy extends to our nature sound effects. We always strive to use 100% authentic field recordings of rain, birdsong, ocean waves, wind and other sounds from the natural world.

At the same time, we want to be open and transparent about how we may use AI elsewhere.

Our Purpose

Since 2009, our purpose has remained the same: to create the highest quality guided meditation listening experience we can, while maintaining the human connection at the heart of our work.

For us, it comes down to whether AI can help us achieve that.
We’ll only use it where we believe it can.

For example...

AI has allowed us to create artwork that accurately reflects places described in our meditations, something that was not always available to us using traditional stock images.

More recently, we've been experimenting with some AI-generated background music.
Why? For many years we've had to rely on the same tiny handful of licensed music tracks, because other suitable music was almost impossible to find. One major music provider even told us that the particular style we wanted wasn't commercially viable for artists to produce, because there simply wasn't enough demand for it.
AI has finally made it possible for us to create the exact type of background music we've always wanted in our meditations, but could never find available to license.

The Heart of It:

The heart of every meditation we create is the human connection between the guide and the listener. Nature sounds, visuals and music play a secondary role, supporting and enhancing the atmosphere to help create the best possible listening experience.

At this time, we believe there is a place for limited and carefully considered use of AI tools when those tools help us create a richer listening experience than we could otherwise offer.
Throughout, we remain committed to preserving the human connection at the heart of our work.
